1. Contact a local Idaho private driving school
- Ask the driving school if they partner with the Idaho Online Driver Education course.
- Register and pay the driving school.
- The driving school will provide me with the valid email address you will use for the online course and I will invite you!
- Your driving school will set up your driving schedule and work directly with you to get that done!
- Must be purchased before registering and paying the private driving school.
- Permits are available at your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
- Students must be at least 14-1/2 years old and enrolled in school.
- Bring a V.O.C. (verification of compliance) form from your school.
- Bring your original social security card.
- Bring your original birth certificate.
- Bring a photo or school I.D.
- Tell the DMV the name of the private driving school you will be driving with.
- Idaho Online Driver Education will contact the private driving school when you finish the online course.
- You will drive for six (6) hours and observe another driver for six (6) hours.
- You must earn an 80% in the classroom and car AND demonstrate a positive attitude to pass!
- If you are older than 17 when you complete driver education, this is not required.
- Ten (10) of the fifty (50) supervised driving hours must be at night.
- The 50 hours of supervised driving must occur over a period of at least six (6) months.
- A licensed adult must be in the front passenger seat during supervised driving practice.
- Once the supervised driving is completed you can contact a local skills tester to arrange for a driving test.
- Find a skills tester HERE!
- The driver education/instruction permit expires five (5) days after the student's 18th birthday.
- Visit your DMV again with the sealed envelope your skills tester will give you and take the written knowledge test.
- Once you pass both tests you can get your full driver's license at the DMV.
