Continuing Education Credit Opportunities
For Idaho Private driving instructors
idaho CE law (For Idaho private driving instructors):
You must earn eight (8) hours of continuing education each year before your birth date to keep your license current.
201.02: Hours. Credit for continuing education hours will only be given for actual time in attendance or for the time spent participating in the educational activity. One (1) hour of continuing education is equal to sixty (60) minutes. Courses taken by correspondence or on-line may be approved for continuing education if the courses require an exam or other proof of successful completion. Only four (4) hours of the required continuing education may be from correspondence, on-line, or self-study in each renewal period. The remaining hours must be in an interactive setting that allows participants to communicate directly with the instructor. Each licensee must maintain proof of attendance or successful completion documentation of all continuing education courses for a period of three (3) years.

8 HOUR workshops (One workshop per year is all you need):
- IAPDB workshop: Idaho Association of Private Driving Businesses workshop in Boise during September of each year.
- Idaho State Department of Education: Targeting public instructors and programs but available regionally.
- Idaho Transportation Department: Annual Idaho Highway Safety Summit (8-16 hours available).

4 hour options:
- Alive at 25 classes. Free, taught by police officers, and offered in multiple Idaho locations. Check it out HERE! Lisa Losness, Alive at 25 Coordinator at ITD has approved this but asked us to contact the instructor to ask about sitting in on a course. Ask the instructor for a certificate of completion and send it in to IBOL as evidence of 4.5 CE hours.

- Self Study:
- Driving or traffic safety related topics that require 4 hours or more to study. Documents, like notes, new presentations, etc. will need to be submitted to IBOL to receive the CE hours.
STAR Motorcycle training course:
